Miss Scarlet.
- Inspector Blake, I can explain.
They don't get off to a great start.
Eliza comes on very strong.
She's confident, she behaves like she owns the place, and that doesn't go down very well with Blake.
This might be a good opportunity to outline the history of my working relationship with your predecessors, and here are numerous case reports, letters of reference, and as you see newspaper clippings showing the investigations that I've helped to solve.
- We find Eliza at the beginning of season five trying to accept that Duke is in New York and he is building a life there, trying to work out a way how to keep her relationship with Scotland Yard going, and what that entails with our new Inspector.
- Miss...?
- Scarlet, as I've already said.
- Miss Scarlet, I have found through bitter experience that private investigators do not compare to professional police officers.
I do not trust them.
I do not use them.
I do not need them.
Eliza and Alexander don't work together.
That is the point.
Alexander does not want to work with Eliza Scarlet under any circumstances.
He is trying to get things under his control pretty quickly.
He's got some plans.
Are we ready?
- Yes, Inspector Blake.
- Alright, let's go.
He's got a way of working and he's making sure that everything runs smoothly.
- One thing I think Eliza has to do this season that she hasn't had to do for a bit is prove herself again.
Now, obviously she always has to prove herself to an extent because she's a female detective in the 1880s, but now that there's a new inspector at Scotland Yard, Inspector Blake, he does not use private detectives.
- There is no we, Miss Scarlet.
- Therefore she has to prove that she can do the job again.
- Tom brings such a grounded, intelligent energy to Blake, but a real twinkle in his eye.
So we know that there's gonna be a journey there with him and Eliza.
- Can I let you know about this season let you into some little secrets?
Well, you will firstly get to meet Alexander Blake, and you will see a relationship of sorts with Eliza blossoming over the episodes.
And I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
I take it you would like to attend the questioning?
- Yes, very much so.
Thank you.
- But perhaps next time you might wish to wear something a little less eye catching.
