A group of residents in Manhattan’s Chinatown organize together to fight to stay in their homes.
Manhattan Chinatown has been fighting gentrification for generations. Today, four looming luxury “mega towers” may be the historic neighborhood's biggest threat. Here, the landlord ignores requests for basic maintenance from long-term tenants, but he sends crews to the building to fully renovate the vacant apartments right across the hall. These new “luxury” apartments rent for thousands a month.

A way that landlords have found to save costs is by not doing repairs.
[Speaking foreign language] These are definitely tactics that landlords use to push long term tenants out.
They can do some easy renovations, make it look a lot more modern and fancy, and then rent it out for three times, four times, five times the amount in the same building.
They are more likely to take advantage of tenants who only speak Chinese, who can't speak English.
Chinatown being one of the last working class neighborhoods in Manhattan, it's right in the crosshairs of real estate.
